Clarinet player and bandleader Tony Parenti was born in New Orleans on August 6, 1900. A child music prodigy, Parenti had his first job as a clarinetist at age 12. He worked with Papa Jack Laine, Johnny Dedroit and Nick LaRocca before forming his own group in the mid-1920s. He moved to New York in 1927 and worked for Columbia Broadcasting System and Radio City Music Hall Symphony Orchestra. He later worked with Ted Lewis and Eddie Condon. Goines has performed with Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and the Wynton Marsalis Septet, among others. He has served on the faculties of Loyola University, the University of New Orleans, Northwestern, and the Juilliard School. The New Orleans (or Mississippi) native was one of the most prolific blues artists between 1929-1941, recording over 200 tracks.
