Brass band drummer Kerry "Fat Man" Hunter was born in New Orleans on May 21, 1970. Hunter played with the Junior Olympia Brass Band, New Birth Brass Band, Kinfolk Brass Band, Preservation Hall Band, New Orleans Nightcrawlers (Grammy Award winner), and others. He was also a founding member of the Treme Sidewalk Steppers Social Aid & Pleasure Club. He was tragically killed by a drunk driver on Mardi Gras Day, February 13, 2024 (obituary). New Orleans music legends Ernie K-Doe and Frankie Ford were featured guests on local (Cox 10) TV show "Louisiana Jukebox" in 1998. Cowboy Mouth's Fred LeBlanc served as guest host.
2026
The final episode of CBS TV's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" aired on May 21, 2026. The show closed out with performances featuring Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, former Late Show bandleader and musical director Jon Batiste, current bandleader Louis Cato, and Colbert house band The Great Big Joy Machine ("Jump Up" and "Hello Goodbye"). McCartney then pulled the power switch backstage, turning off the lights at the Ed Sullivan Theater (video). The celebration carried on after the show ended with an off camera ensemble rendition of "When The Saints Go Marching In" (with McCartney on trumpet).
