6:00 pm - 7:30 pm | Opening Reception for the Louis Armstrong Centennial Conference - "A Celebration of the Artistry and Legacy of Louis Armstrong" (for conference participants only - on-site registration available) Location: Palm Court Jazz Café, 1204 Decatur Street (2 blocks from the Mint) After the reception, the Palm Court will remain open for dinner at 8 p.m. For dinner reservations, call 504 525-0200 |
8:00 pm | Airport Renaming Ceremony Ceremony renaming the New Orleans International Airport as the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Reception and musical tribute to follow. The Hot 8 Brass Band will be performing at the airport throughout the day. The Treme Brass Band and the Black Men of Labor SAPC will lead VIP's from curbside at the Delta Terminal to the Ceremony. After the ceremony, there will be a Trumpet Tribute featuring James Andrews, Lionel Ferbos and Chris Clifton. This will be followed by performances from Dr. Michael White and his Liberty Brass Band (with Lionel Ferbos), and James Andrews' All Star Band featuring Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews.
