1928 Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five recorded the groundbreaking classic "West End Blues" for the OKeh label (OKeh 8597) in Chicago on June 28, 1928. The track was added to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1974. Read more about "West End Blues" here.

1959 Lloyd Price performed his hit song "Personality" on CBS TV's "The Ed Sullivan Show" on June 28, 1959. Note: Duke Ellington also appeared in this episode.

1968 Musician, educator, artist, podcaster, and culture bearer Christine Balfa was born in Basile, Louisiana on June 28, 1968. Christine is the daughter of late Cajun music pioneer Dewey Balfa. She founded the band Balfa Toujours after her father's passing in 1992. She is a co-founder of the Grammy nominated band Bonsoir, Catin. Read more here. 1969 The single "Everything I Do Gonh Be Funky (From Now On)" by singer Lee Dorsey entered the R&B Singles Chart in 1969. The tune, written by Allen Toussaint, peaked at #33.

2009 The 9th BET Awards took place in Los Angeles, California on June 28, 2009. Lil Wayne was named "Best Male Hip Hop Artist". Non-winning nominees included Trin-I-Tee 5:7 (Best Gospel Artist) and Lil Wayne's "A Milli" (Viewer's Choice).
