1937 Willard Cox, fiddler, vocalist, and patriarch of the Grammy winning bluegrass/gospel/country group The Cox Family, was born in Cotton Valley, Louisiana on June 9, 1937. He passed away in Minden, Louisiana on November 4, 2019 at the age of 82. Watch The Cox Family videos on YouTube.

1958 Jerry Lee Lewis took out a full page ad in Billboard Magazine on June 9, 1958, in response to the uproar over his marriage to 13-year-old Myra Gail Brown (who was the daughter of Jerry Lee's cousin and bass player, J.W. Brown).
1973 "In The Right Place" by Dr. John entered the Billboard Top 40 Albums Chart on June 9, 1973. The album, produced by Allen Toussaint with backing by The Meters, remained on the Top 40 chart for 9 weeks, peaking at #24.

1977 Keyboard player Jerry Killmer was born (Jerry Wayne Killmer Jr.) on June 9, 1977 in Crowley, LA. Killmer worked with Travis Matte and the Kingpins, Damon Troy, Jamie Bergeron, Lukas Meaux, and others. He passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2025 at age 47.
2011 New Orleans swamp-rock band The Radiators performed the first of what was announced as their final three concerts (billed as "The Last Watusi") at Tipitina's on June 9, 2011. Turns out, it wasn't really their final concerts. They have been holding annual reunion shows at Tipitina's every January, and they also perform during Jazz Fest.
