1900 Noted trumpeter Tommy Ladnier was born (Thomas James Ladnier) in Mandeville, LA on May 28, 1900. Ladnier, who was taught by Bunk Johnson, worked with Fletcher Henderson, the New Orleans Footwarmers (which Ladnier co-founded with Sidney Bechet), Mezz Mezzrow, and many others. 1926 Louis Armstrong recorded "Stomp Off, Let's Go" and "Static Strut" with Erskine Tate's Vendome Orchestra for the Vocalion label in Chicago on May 28, 1926.

1926 Lill's Hot Shots (actually Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five) recorded "Georgia Bo Bo" and "Drop That Sack" for the Vocalion label in Chicago on May 28, 1926. Personnel included Armstrong, Kid Ory, Johnny Dodds, Lil Hardin Armstrong, and Johnny St. Cyr.
2018 Country music singer and Sarepta, Louisiana native Trace Adkins gave a special pre-parade performance at the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. on May 28, 2018. The mini concert included his tributes to the military, "Arlington" and "Still a Soldier".
