New Year's Eve Concert | At 9:00 p.m., the City of New Orleans will present a concert outside the Decatur Street gates of Jackson Square, the traditional gathering spot for New Orleans to ring out the old. The outdoor event features music from the Wardell Quezerque Big Band with vocalists Wanda Rouzan and Cookie Gabriel; plus The Johnson Extension with Marva Wright; Mardi Gras Indians, Los Babies; and the Tuba Fats Brass Band. Celebrity guest hosts Mayor Morial and District "C" Council Member Troy Carter, will take turns in the spotlight, introducing the talent and keeping the action moving well past midnight. A fireworks display, along with Baby New Year, the annual Countdown and special Ball Drop will ring in 2000 as New Orleans and the world enter the new Millennium. At 1:00 a.m. there will be a "Second Line" parade from Jackson Square to Canal Street. |
