Sugar Hill to release new album by Sonny Landreth
"Levee Town" in stores October 17, 2000

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 15 -- Sugar Hill Records is set to release distinctive guitar virtuoso Sonny Landreth's first major album in five years. "Levee Town" will be in stores on October 17.

The Louisiana based guitarist, songwriter and singer is an artist at the peak of his considerable powers and the new album illustrates a more sharply focused vocal attack, coupled with his singular guitar style.

Landreth considers "Levee Town" part of a three-album trilogy that began with 1992's critically lauded "Outward Bound" and "South of I-10," released in 1995.

"Along with the last two albums I wanted to dig deeper into the built-in mythology and mystery of the Deep South," says Landreth. "It's really inspirational to live here and the deeper I go, the more inspired I get."

Indeed, the title track tells the story of the flooding of the Atchafalaya Basin in the 70s, an event that had a profound effect on the then-budding guitarist. Appropriately, the background vocals are handled by John Hiatt, the singer/songwriter who first brought Landreth to attention in 1988 by hiring the guitarist and his band to back him on his Bring The Family tour, paving the way for Landreth's first solo outing in '92.

Other special guests on the album include Bonnie Raitt, Jennifer Warnes, Herb Pederson, Stephen Bruton and more. Levee Town was produced by Mike Post with R.S. Fields and Sonny Landreth.

Highly regarded as the premier label for American roots music of all types, Sugar Hill Records was founded 23 years ago by Barry Poss and boasts eight Grammy Awards and was named by Pulse Magazine as "one of the 21 independent labels that changed the world." In 1998, Sugar Hill became part of the Welk Music Group, owners of the prestigious Vanguard Records.
