Tech Talk: the Britney HBO special will be shot with more than 25 moving cameras, employing a variety of cranes and jibs, including: the Strada Crane (with an 100-plus foot arm); the Super Techno Crane (with an articulated telescoping arm); a customized jib, designed specifically for this show, that will be suspended from the lighting rig; three rail-cam systems with gyro stabilized heads, one at stage level, and two suspended from the ceiling; a jib with an underwater housing for use within the water effects on stage; and multiple steadi-cams, cameras on dollies, and handheld cameras. In addition, there will be holographic-type projections on water, a variety of water and pyrotechnic special effects, and other surprises. "Britney Spears: Live From Las Vegas" will also mark the first HBO concert to be broadcast with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

Britney Responds: pop star Britney Spears may team up with Michael Jackson and others on a fund raiser for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack; Britney is also planning to raise as much as $2 million for the children of the New York police officers and firefighters lost as a result of the attack; $1 from each ticket sold on her upcoming 31 city tour will go to the fund (a special division of The Britney Spears Foundation), as well as proceeds from special merchandise sales and the auctioning of front row seats to her concerts.

Mardi Gras News: The 4th annual Krewe of Endymion Samedi Gras Festival kicks off at 12 noon on March 4th at N. Olympia St. and Orleans Ave., a block from where the Endymion parade begins; music includes The Vieux Carré Band, The Naked Martinis, The Bucktown Allstars and Al Jackson; starting at 3 p.m., from N. Carrollton Ave. and Orleans Ave., an estimated 1,400 krewe members will march in a parade that heads along Orleans toward City Park, passes through the Samedi Gras Fest and ends up at City Park Avenue, near where Endymion's floats line up; accompanied by brass bands, the marchers will carry walking sticks decorated with purple, green and gold flowers, which they'll hand out to spectators; they'll also be giving away limited-edition plush Samedi Gras dolls; upon her arrival at around 4:30 p.m., Endymion’s grand marshal, pop star Britney Spears, will be welcomed by dignitaries; she will then signal the start of the krewe’s parade (admission is free; if you can't make the party, catch Britney in the parade).

Britney Gives Back on Monday, Britney announced the creation of "The Britney Spears Foundation", a charitable foundation she is forming in conjunction with The Giving Back Fund; The Britney Spears Foundation's first "gift" will be the formation of a performing arts-based summer camp for underprivileged kids; scheduled to open in the summer of 2000, the camp will enable 100 children from urban areas to spend a fun-filled two weeks in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts; there they will attend performing arts workshops and master's classes, completely free of charge; "I'm so happy to be able to give kids the opportunity to learn about the amazing world of dance and music that I've been lucky enough to make such a big part of my own life," said Britney, "It's exciting to help inspire talented kids to pursue their dreams of becoming performing artists."
